What is light?
Light consists of electromagnetic particles called photons, which travel in waves. These visible and invisible light wavelengths are measured in nanometers (nm), and generally the shorter the wavelength, the greater the energy. Together, these wavelengths form an electromagnetic spectrum
What does a man see?
The human eye perceives only the part of visible light that ranges from 380 nm to 780 nm and is represented by purple, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Blue light, also known as high energy visible light (HEV), has the shortest visible wavelength (380 nm to 500 nm) and therefore produces the highest amount of energy.
Is blue light harmful?
The blue HEV light passes through the cornea, the lens and reaches the retina at the back of the eye. Studies suggest that over time exposure to HEV blue light may cause specific long-term eye damage:

Man-made artificial light raises new problems for our health. Now LEDs are everywhere: street lamps, home lighting, TV, laptop, phone, tablet and many other digital devices. The problem is that people have not yet managed to adapt to it, so artificial light is harmful to health.
Who should protect?
Probably the most exposed to the influence of blue light are children and teenagers who not only spend huge amounts of time in front of the screen of a phone or laptop, but whose myelin sheaths of the brain are not yet fully developed so that blue light has a much worse effect on them than on people after 25 years of age.
Older people should also take care of protection against artificial light, because as we get older, we lose melanin cells, which makes such people particularly susceptible to the increased occurrence of macular degeneration.
Unfortunately, the problem does not only affect children and seniors. For all ages, too much artificial light at night can disrupt sleep cycles causing sleepless nights, daytime fatigue, poor regeneration and mitochondrial damage, and according to Dr. Douglas C. Wallace, a leading American researcher, mitochondrial damage is a major cause over 85% of all diseases in the world.
What can cause blue light toxicity?
How to protect yourself from artificial light? We have several options:
Computer filters - Iris, F.lux, which limit artificial blue light, but do not eliminate it completely, so they are not a 100% effective solution
Filters for phone - Twilight for Android or Night Shift for iPhone - the same situation as with computer filters, only partial protection
Blue blocking glasses - are the best protection against what reaches our eyes, but you should be vigilant, because most models available on the market are ineffective.
